Firm: Texas State University MFA Program | Client: Experimental Book Class | Designer: Trey Terrell
The Task
While taking the Experimental Book class in graduate school I focused on projects that I might not have the opportunity to explore in my daily work – really trying to push the limits of what a “book” is.
With this project I asked the question: can a book tell a different story every time you read it?
The Solution
Inspired by old Choose Your Own Adventure novels, Mad Libs, and Cards Against Humanity, I decided that my “book” would take the form of a card game. Players would pick from three stacks of cards depicting the Who, What, and Where of their story and begin to spin their tale. Other players could interrupt and add an exciting twist by using on of the Suddenly cards.
This project earned a Finalist spot in the 2016 MFA Showcase juried exhibit.
